The PSTN/ISDN switch-off and what it means for you

Openreach is switching off the PSTN/ISDN network across the UK by January 2027. Any business still running analogue lines, ISDN30, ISDN2 or on-premise PBX hardware reliant on those circuits has to migrate to an all-IP solution, typically hosted VoIP or SIP trunks behind an existing PBX, before the cut-off in their exchange area.

We map your existing line estate, model the right replacement (hosted VoIP, SIP, or hybrid for sites with bespoke needs), and coordinate number porting so your geographic and non-geographic numbers move across without disruption.

Choosing the right business connectivity

SoGEA replaces ADSL/FTTC where copper is still in the ground and removes the redundant analogue line, usually cheaper than the FTTC + line rental combination it replaces. FTTP (full-fibre to the premises) is now available at most UK postcodes and offers gigabit symmetric speeds at consumer-grade pricing.

Leased lines (Ethernet First Mile, EFM, fibre Ethernet) remain the right choice when uptime, symmetric throughput and fixed-IP delivery matter, typically for sites running hosted apps, VoIP at scale, or revenue-critical e-commerce. We model both on your real headcount, app stack and uptime tolerance.

Managed IT support and cyber security

Managed IT support tiers vary from after-hours backup for an internal IT lead, through co-managed (sharing 1st/2nd line with an external partner), to fully outsourced 24/7 helpdesk. We match providers based on your headcount, sector and risk appetite, and surface SLA, escalation and onsite-response commitments on every quote.

On the security side, every MSP on our panel can deliver Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus certification as a baseline, with ISO 27001-aligned policies, EDR/MDR, immutable backup and Microsoft 365/Google Workspace hardening for businesses with stricter compliance needs.
